Mulch

Mulching is one of the easiest yet most beneficial practices you can use in your garden or yard. We use 100% natural wood product which slowly decomposes over time, adding nutrients to the soil, allowing the soil to retain water better, maintaining an even soil temperature, improving root growth, and aiding in the control of weeds.

Mulch offerings:

Pure Hemlock: $45/yd

Burgundy Red: $35/yd

Deluxe Red Cedar: $38/yd.

I am interested in improving the soil in some specific areas of my yard that have poor soil, where grass growth has been unsuccessful or unsustained over several years. Would you recommend dressing the areas with loam or with compost? Or is it possible (or advisable) to purchase a mixture of the two?

      Hi Jean,
We are just receiving mulch now ! Hemlock is due in today. I have updated the website to show this years pricing – one change to take note of on the hemlock – last year we had a hemlock blend – we have changed to pure hemlock this year as I was unhappy with the amount of hemlock in the “hemlock blend” last year ! Delivery to Attleboro would be $30. thank you !

I have been looking into mulch and read that the red coloring can cause more harm than good if the coloring is made with petrochemicals. Does the delux red cedar or the Burgundy red have any dies in them, and if so, what are the dyes made of? What mulch would you reccommend for a vegetable garden? What mulch is safe to be walked on by dogs and children?

the colorants in our mulches are USDA approved food grade dyes. So they are safe but I wouldnt use them with vegetables because mulch tends to be pretty acidic and the decomposing mulch can use up nitrogen that veggies plants need. Compost and salt marsh hay are commonly used around veggies as mulches.
